Bringing nutritious food—and community care—to our neighbors’ doors.
Everyone deserves access to nourishing food. For people who face barriers to shopping or traveling to a food distribution site, home delivery can make a meaningful difference.
Hunger Action Los Angeles’ Weekly Food Delivery Program brings fresh produce, grocery staples, and prepared meals to approximately 300 households per week, supporting older adults, blind residents, and people with disabilities.

Born During a Crisis. Sustained by Community.
When COVID-19 disrupted daily life, HALA began delivering food to residents who could not safely leave home—including people temporarily isolated by pandemic restrictions.
What began as an emergency response became an ongoing community effort. Nearly 200 volunteers have helped collect, pack, and distribute food, supported by partnerships with four restaurants, local farmers, and generous food donors.
Today, that spirit of neighbors helping neighbors continues with every bag packed and every delivery made.
Why Food Delivery Matters in Los Angeles County
Hunger remains a serious challenge across our county. USC’s October 2025 research found that:
-
Nearly 1 in 4 households—24%—experienced food insecurity during the preceding year. That represents approximately 814,000 households.
-
35% of low-income households experienced food insecurity. The study defines low income as below 300% of the federal poverty level.
-
21% experienced nutrition insecurity, meaning difficulty consistently accessing healthy, nutritious food.
These countywide findings underscore the need for continued food assistance. For the neighbors HALA serves, affordability may be only part of the challenge: disability, limited mobility, and transportation barriers can also make it difficult to bring groceries home.
Our delivery program helps close that gap by bringing food directly to residents.
A Community Partnership in Every Delivery
Our program brings together food recovery organizations, farmers, meal providers, donors, and volunteers to help keep our neighbors nourished.
We collect fresh produce and grocery items from:

We are grateful to every partner whose generosity helps make these weekly deliveries possible.
